Girls Compete at NRUs : 2008-05-19
May 17 & 18, 2008 - New Rochelle, NY
The City Honors Girls Rugby club avenged an early season drubbing at the hands of Fairport by fighting through a tough 0-0 tie at the Northeast Rugby Union territorial playoffs. Liz Felix was named by her teammates as the Woman of the Match. Fairport's lock, Kaitlyn was named Woman of the Match by the Lady Centaurs.
The girls second game found them down by 5 against Elizabeth HSRFC of New Jersey late in the second half until Jamilia Muhammad ran over 70 metres for a score in the corner. Unfortunately, Liz Felix's great kick from a very tough angle just fell short and the game ended in another tie. Erika Huard was named Woman of the Match by her teammates. CHS named their inside center as Woman of the Match.
In their third game on Sunday, the New York Rugby Club U19s defeated CHS 25-7. NYRC's five trys came from their explosive flyhalf. Erika Huard took a ball off a lineout and bullied it in for the try. Liz Felix's conversion added two more points. The Centaurs awarded the Woman of the Match Blue Bison t-shirt to the NYRC's flyhalf.
Jamilia Muhammad was named CHS Tournament MVP by her teammates. The Centaurs ended up in fourth place overall after losing one and tying two games.
Many thanks to all the parents who came along to support the girls.
