Rugby Prom & NYS Select-Side a Success : 2008-06-15

Friday the 13th at Masten Park was a wonderful day for the City Honors and Kenmore West Girls Rugby Clubs as they competed in the first ever Rugby Prom. Congratulations go out the Lady Blue Devils who won the inaugural Rugby Prom, 3 trys to 2. The game had to be canceled due thunder and lighting (and those weren't banger ball calls!) followed by a torrential downpour. No worries as everybody in attendance had already had a wonderful time. Coach Jerry Hahn looked spectacular, Coach McTigue was spotted wearing a kilt, Cailin West was named Rugby Prom Queen for having fun and helping clean up during the deluge. Who ever the player from Kenmore West was who sang "I feel pretty, oh so pretty!!!" while playing is officially the most fun rugby player in New York State. The Lady Centaur demand a rematch that is as fun as the inaugural Rugby Prom. Thanks to all the parents and fans who supported us. Many thanks to the Kenmore West and City Honors boys ruggers who helped out with set-up.

Saturday and Sunday, June 14 & 15, Albany NY. The New York Select-Side team including four Centaurs and three Blue Devils, won their first game 20-0 versus the Eastern Pennsylvania Select-Side. Stephanie Allen (KW) and Jamila Muhammad (CHS) both scored trys. Brittany Dodd (At-Large) scored two more. In the Sunday game versus the New England RFU Select-Side, NYS lost. The sole try was scored by Melissa Maze (UB) after a smart-quick tap by Sarah Bellnier (Fredonia, CHS '07). Congratulations to Jessica Drock, Erika Huard, Samanta Gray and Dorena Johnson who also competed this weekend in the Select-Side Tournament.
